Reviews & Scores
This brilliant effort just seems to move from strength to strength with its positively sublime aromas of ripe yet elegant dark berry fruit, plum, spice, violet and sandalwood-infused nose. The highly seductive, concentrated and notably powerful mineral-inflected medium full flavors are underpinned by a notably firm tannic spine on the velvety, highly complex and stunningly long finish where the only nit is a hint of warmth. The mid-palate sap completely buffers the dusty tannins and this should be capable of at least another decade of improvement and perhaps even longer. This overtly powerful and built-to-live-for-decades effort delivers grand cru quality and I wouldn't touch a bottle for at least another 5 years. In sum, this is reference standard Fuées. - BH

From a site just south of Bonnes Mares, the 2005 Chambolle-Musigny Les Fuees smells brightly of ripe strawberry and black and red raspberry mingled with resin and maple syrup. In the mouth, this exhibits palpable density, yet lovely delicacy and refined tannin, with accents of citrus rind and mineral salts adding allure. The vigorous finish weaves together savory, soy-like saltiness, fresh, subtle tartness of ripe fruit skin, sweet florality. (DS) - WA

The 2005 Mugnier les Fuées is another simply beautiful bottle in the making, with more of a black fruity personality this year, but also plenty of Chambolle-Musigny essence. The bouquet is deep and hauntingly perfumed, as it offers up notes of black cherries, plums, cocoa, a nice touch of blood orange, minerals, flowers and a touch of vanillin oak. On the palate the wine is full-bodied and plush on the attack, with layers of sappy Chambolle fruit, a lovely base of soil, great mid-palate depth, and a very long, ripely tannic, tangy and still rather primary finish. There is great terroir in the Fuées this year, but it will have to take a backseat for a few years to the absolute fireworks of fruit going on in this wine out of the blocks. A brilliant premier cru. - JG
